PARTNER PROFILE - TERC
---------------------------
The partner in the spotlight this week is TERC. For over 37 years TERC has
emphasized an innovative, inquiry-based approach to learning by students
from every background, searching for ways to include more students in
meaningful learning experiences in science and mathematics. In 2001, TERC
programs and products reached over 1.4 million students in all 50 states and
87 countries. http://www.terc.edu/

IN THE NEWS

LIGHTNING REALLY DOES STRIKE MORE THAN TWICE
NASA-funded scientists have recently learned that cloud-to-ground lightning
frequently strikes the ground in two or more places and that the chances of
being struck are about 45 percent higher than what people commonly assume.

NASA MISSION WILL LOOK AT CLOUDS FROM BOTH SIDES
CloudSat, the most advanced radar designed to measure the properties of
clouds, will provide the first global measurements of cloud thickness,
height, water and ice content, and a wide range of precipitation data linked
to cloud development. The Earth System Science Pathfinder Mission is
expected to improve weather forecasting and advance our understanding of key
climate processes during its two-year design lifetime.

Partners and other science news sources for inclusion on the Federation news
pages. Recent stories are listed above. Please send us any news items from
