Bruce Barkstrom of the Langley DAAC has put together a one-day workshop
on Data Products Marketing. He has generously offered to present this
workshop as a pre-meeting opportunity on Sunday, January 4 in Orlando.
The workshop begins at 9 am.

Registration is simple - just check the box when you register for the
regular meeting noting that you will be attending this special workshop
and we'll do the rest. If you are planning to attend, please register
for the meeting and workshop early. We will be buying books for the
workshop and want to be sure we can accommodate everyone who would like
to attend. Alternately, you can email me now (and register later) in
the event you plan to attend. The deadline for registering is December
19. (The hotel registration deadline is December 12). To register for
the meeting, go to:

I hope to see each of you in Orlando.

An Outline for the Data Products Marketing Workshop follows:

- Identifying the Product (what is it, why would people want to buy it)

- Analyzing the Potential Market (identifying the user populations - and
companies that might buy the product)

- Estimating Adoption of the Product (the innovation-diffusion model
	and its implications)

- Doing a Financial Analysis (what will the product cost to the
producer,
	what will the market bear)

- Market Friction Forces (why wouldn't people buy your product - and
what you can do to overcome these forces)

- Market Positioning, Initial Introduction, Channel Strategy, and
Support
Model (how to introduce the product - and how to broaden the
	avenues for selling it)

- Keeping Track of How You're Doing - the Balanced Scorecard
