GSFC Earth Sciences (GES) Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC),
located at the GES Data and Information Services Center (DISC) is
moving away from data distribution by media
November 1, 2005 marks the beginning of the electronic (only) era for
data distribution. Full distribution support services will continue.
Due to the need to contain costs, the GES DISC will be eliminating
operational media distribution of all its data holdings on October
31, 2005. This decision, not only provides great cost savings by
doing away with a redundant, less efficient distribution method, but
it also allows NASA to re-focus funds into refreshing current system
implementations to be more user efficient and responsive, and into
areas that will provide more advanced user-driven,
discipline-specific services. Over the next several months we would
be interested in knowing technical issues that you may have as a
result of this decision. Feel free to contact our user services with
your comments: help at daac.gsfc.nasa.gov
