OOS TECH 2005:
Web Services for Interoperable Ocean Science
October 24-26, 2005
Where: The Marriot Inner Harbor Hotel, Baltimore, MD
When: October 24, 25, 26
What is OOS TECH 2005?
OOS TECH 2005 is the latest workshop in an ongoing series, engaging the
broad marine data management community in information technology (IT)
issues for the Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS). The workshop
will provide opportunities to work with data experts from observing
systems around the U.S., discuss IOOS IT needs, and share strategies and
identify issues to advance the national effort and the "open-source"
attitude. The workshop will involve the community to promote the best
available tools and practices, identify gaps in required technologies
and applications, and maximize opportunities for sharing technologies
and solutions.
As the IOOS data sharing architecture evolves, Web Services are emerging
as a leading technology among those available for serving operational
oceanographic data. With the IOOS Data Management and Communications
(DMAC) plan and community interest pointing to the Web Services model
for data sharing, OOS Tech 05 will focus on Web Services as a key
component of ocean data systems. The workshop will combine speakers,
discussion panels, and training opportunities in plenary and breakout
sessions. The workshop will quickly entrain those new to the topic, and
experienced web service developers can guide future developments by
providing their perspectives on what works, and what needs work, for
successfully integrating our ocean observing systems.
Workshop Format:
The workshop will take place over 2 days, with the evening prior to the
first full day devoted to an introduction to workshop topics and a meet
and greet reception.
