The 2006 Summer Federation of Earth Science Information Partners
("Federation") Conference will run July 18-21, 2006 in Palisades, NY.
The meeting will be held at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and
will feature a mix of plenary, technical and science/applications
breakout tracks. Registration for the meeting is $250/members,
$325/non-members, if paid by June 1, 2006. (After June 1, the
registration fee rises to $325/members, $400/non-members).

The Conference will build on the latest Federation activities in
creating communities and delivering content related to the Earth
Information Exchange's portal channels. Six Science/Applications
Communities (aka "Clusters") have formed - Air Quality, Coastal
Management, Disaster Management, Ecological Forecasting, Public Health
and Water Management. This is a working meeting where you can contribute
your expertise to these evolving communities.

Technical Workshops will be held on July 18, prior to the start of the
full meeting. The technical workshops at the Summer 2006 ESIP Federation
Meeting will continue with the tradition of providing a mixture of
presentations, discussions, and hands-on activities relating to current
technologies of interest to the Federation membership. The workshops
will be organized as a limited number (2-3) of concurrent 2-hour blocks
on Tuesday, July 18, within which the workshops will be scheduled.
Preliminary topic areas cover Web-services Implementations, Enabling
Technologies, and Metadata Creation and Management. There are still
some openings in the program. If you are interested in presenting a
workshop, contact Karl Benedict.

The Annual Business Meeting will take place on Thursday, July 20, 2006.

On the evening of July 18, there will be an optional off-site excursion
to watch the NY Yankees play the Seattle Mariners. Tickets are optional
and are limited to the first 20 who sign up for them. The cost for your
ticket and transportation to/from Yankee Stadium is $25.

Visit the ESIP Federation website for frequent updates to the meeting
schedule.

If you have any questions about the meeting, please don't hesitate to

See you in July,

Carol Meyer
