The Environmental Sciences Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory
(ORNL, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA) has an opening for a post-masters or
post-doctoral position in the Environmental Data Sciences and Systems
area, with an anticipated start date between March 2007 and September
2007.  The position is a one-year appointment, extendable to a total of
3 years depending on mutual interest.   We are seeking a recent (within
the last 3 years) masters or doctoral graduate interested in applying
software development and informatics skills to environmental data
management and distribution challenges.  The degree discipline should
have some connection to  
 
The successful candidate will be involved in a range of research
projects in Environmental Informatics, including improving tools for
analyzing and subsetting geospatial & temporal data, tools for working
with environmental dataset metadata, and tools for collating data from
multiple sources. These projects will principally be associated with the
ORNL Distributed Active Archive Center for biogeochemical dynamics
(http://www.daac.ornl.gov), but may also involve other data centers and
Environmental Informatics efforts at ORNL, such as the Atmospheric
Radiation Measurements Archive (http://www.archive.arm.gov/), the Carbon
Dioxide Information Analysis Center (http://cdiac.ornl.gov/), and the
National Biological Information Infrastructure Clearinghouse
(http://www.nbii.gov).

This appointment is offered through the ORNL Postdoctoral Research
Associates Program
