A new ESIP Working Group is forming to help categorize and register the collective skills of our Federation membership. This Working Group specifically will help provide appropriate skill categories for an expertise database. The initial motivation is to identify potential "advisors" to work with GEO teams on funded "Earth Observations in Decision Support" projects. However, the database has more general applicability for Federation members wanting to spawn new collaborations. The Products and Services Committee has developed the skills registration and search tool - which could be used to enter/register information at the time of Summer Meeting registration (starting mid-April). Inclusion of your skill information in this database is entirely voluntary, and various privacy options are available to limit who has access to what information.

A first cut at a Category list (based partly upon registration of *data* to GCMD keywords) is attached or can be accessed from the Working Group wiki: http://wiki.esipfed.org/index.php/ESIP_Expertise . This list needs to be refined by those working directly in those fields; it is generally organized by: applications, science, information technology, education, etc. Another potential use of the skills database is for a skills "bank" where hours are earned by providing a technical service to some Federation member, and then spent to obtain a service from a different Federation member

An initial telecon of this "ESIP Expertise" Working Group will be held Tuesday April 6 at 3pm EDT for those interested:
   Tuesday April 6, 3pm EDT (12noon PDT)
   Dial: 800-508-7631
   Access Code: *1297219*
Agenda: Help refine skill category list
