System Engineer (Earth Science Data Standards Specialist)

Responsibilities: 
This position will support the Science System Development Office (SSDO)
System Engineering Task in the Earth Science Data and Information Systems
(ESDIS) Project.  More specifically, the candidate will provide system
engineering support to the Data System Planning Group (DSPG) in the areas of
advanced data system planning for future missions.  The candidate will
support the DSPG in the areas of: building for data system flexibility and
improved usability; exploring Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) based
architecture; providing insight and guidance on Earth science standards for
data; improve knowledge of data system performance, tools and services; and
planning for the infusion of technologies within the data systems.  The
candidate will provide: advice in design, analysis, and integration; support
for planning and scheduling; research; and identify issues and provide
possible solutions and understanding impacts.  The candidate must have an
in-depth knowledge, understanding, and experience with Earth Science data
standards, protocols, and interoperability.  The candidate would also
provide support to ESDIS participation in inter-agency committees and will
be expected to prepare reports, evaluations, and case studies. 
Requirements: 
Position requires an understanding of Earth science applications coupled
with an IT background and understanding of IT principles, concepts, and
methods;  existing knowledge of NASA and Earth Science data policies;
experience analyzing system requirements, developing functional performance
requirements, and allocating those requirements to system elements;
excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; and
ability to work independently as well as part of a team. 
Education & Experience: 
BS degree, or equivalent experience, in engineering, physical sciences,
mathematics, computer science, or related degree
