As a follow up to this talk,

Tom and I are seeking use cases for the kinds of data people want to connect to this project.

We want this to evolve from a mobile app for browsing AGU data to a hub of research collaboration data, for now targeted at the ESSI community. In addition to adapters to other data sources like the AMS (as Hook suggested), we want to know the other kinds of data individuals would want to link to this project.

Once we assemble some of these use cases, we can start to design web services that can help people create these links.

An example to get the ball rolling on this:

* From ESIP, we are using mailing list membership data to organize people according to clusters and workgroups they participate in. Once we put this into a structured form like RDF, we can start to pull out information like key points of contact for specific clusters. With de-duplicated and linked identifiers, you can start to answer questions like, "Is there anyone in my organization participating in the ESIP Semantic Web cluster?". Likewise, with the ESIP data linked to AGU abstracts, ESIP can visualize connectivity across its subgroups (how many members of Cluster A have coauthored/collaborated with members of Cluster B), which might inform the kinds of "joint sessions" that would be of interest to those groups.

Also, here's a link to the slides from today's talk:
