Ocean folks will be interested in this. It lays out the science priorities for the coming decade and recommends major cuts and changes in research infrastructure. I’m not sure what that means for data.

cheers,

I’m pleased to announce the release of a new report on priorities for ocean science from the National Research Council. Sea Change: 2015-2025 Decadal Survey of Ocean Sciences identifies eight strategic research priorities for the next decade that will continue to advance scientific understanding of the ocean. It also assesses the infrastructure needed to support this research, and makes recommendations for aligning current and planned infrastructure and budgets with science priorities in order to reach research goals.

The report is available for free download at http://nas-sites.org/dsos2015/.

A public webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at 3:00pm EST. It will feature presentations by Shirley Pomponi and David Titley, co-chairs of the report’s authoring committee, followed by a Q & A session. Please use the following link to register: https://nasevents.webex.com/nasevents/onstage/g.php?d=665828853&t=a

Over the next several weeks, members of the report’s authoring committee will be presenting a series of seminars at research institutions around the United States. For more information on these briefings, please check the report website at http://nas-sites.org/dsos2015/.

Please help us spread the word about this report by sharing it among your networks. Thanks for your interest in the project, and please let me know if I can answer any questions.

Sincerely,
Deb Glickson for the Committee on Guidance for NSF on National Ocean Science Research Priorities
