The National Agricultural Library has a job opportunity for the Deputy Director, supervisory librarian position at the GS-15 grade.  The position is located in Beltsville, MD, closing on Thursday, June 25, 2020.

As Deputy Director of the National Agricultural Library, the incumbent directs operations of one of the largest agricultural sciences libraries; plans, develops, and operates national and international science information systems in agriculture and related sciences.

We are seeking candidates with demonstrated ability to manage a library, groups of libraries, or library system; demonstrated ability to direct library programs, policies, and procedures; able to conduct management studies; public relations; educational activities; experienced in planning, developing, and carrying out administrative activities of a library or library system; demonstrated experience in planning and managing budget, finance, personnel, and facilities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  *   Supervises the activities of the library's Administrative Office including budget oversight, facility management, financial management, health and safety management, and personnel and physical security.
  *   Assures the acquisition, preservation, and accessibility of all information concerning food, agriculture, and related topics.
  *   Represents the interests of the Department on various high-level national and international committees for the purpose of assuring a cooperative effort in science information programs.
  *   Makes selections for positions, assigning duties, reviewing work, approving/disapproving leave and evaluating performance.
  *   Provides leadership and coordinates programs for library activities and information systems.
  *   Formulates, prescribes, and sets policy for bibliographic and other technically-related standards for the National Agricultural Library and other related USDA information systems.

Occasional travel is expected for this position.
