The NASA Astrophysics Data System (ADS) is a NASA-funded project at the
Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, MA, has an opening for an Earth
Scientist to join its Open Science initiatives. The ADS is a 30-year old
project which maintains a literature-centric database of research works in
Astronomy and related disciplines. The project is now expanding its
discovery platform to all research funded by the NASA Science Mission
Directorate (SMD) divisions in support of NASA's Open Source Science
Initiative.

The expansion plan, which has now begun in earnest, involves the creation
of a literature-based, open digital information system covering and
unifying the fields of Astrophysics, Planetary Science, Heliophysics, and
Earth Science. It will also cover NASA funded research in Biological and
Physical Sciences. Codenamed NASA Science Explorer, or SciX for short, it
will extend ADS to become a permanent major component in the infrastructure
of scientific research, providing important contributions towards the goal
of open science.

The Project Scientist for Earth Science will work to establish and maintain
the SciX as a world leading information resource for Earth Science. Duties
of this job include serving as the principal scientific resource for Earth
Science, developing new methods to search, discover, and use research data
and publications, and serving as a research scientist at the intersection
of Earth and Information Science. The employee will devote 30% of their
time to do original research in Earth Science.
