FYI, below is OGC’s call to participate in the DRR simulated exercise.

ESIP Disasters Lifecycle Cluster is moving forward with plans to have our representative, Susana Adamo/CIESIN attend the DRR Summit. Please note that remote participation in the simulated exercise may be available. We will be discussing ESIP’s role in the Summit at our next telecom, scheduled for the 5th Thursday, 8/31 at our regular time of 4:00pm eastern.

We are updating our ESIP Disasters Lifecycle poster for the Summit. Please let me know if you have ideas or images to contribute.

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) announce a Call for Participation in a simulated disaster response exercise that will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina on September 7th, 2017, during the Disaster Risk Reduction (DDR) Across the Americas Summit.

Many disasters in Latin America and the Caribbean affect multiple countries which means that sharing of best practices and other information across national boundaries can improve disaster response capabilities in the region. Bringing together the disaster response community, inclusive of data providers and end users, through the simulated exercise, will help identify the best practices, gaps and information needs among all stakeholders and ensure that future work plans are tied to real gaps and needs.

The DDR Across the Americas Summit will provide an important opportunity for enhanced dialogue and planning between representatives of the scientific earth observation (EO) and the DRR community, including stakeholders in preparedness and planning, disaster mitigation, emergency response, and recovery.

To ensure the success of the exercise we specifically encourage participation from emergency managers, earth observation data providers, the academic sector, non-governmental organizations, and commercial companies. OGC le invita a participar en un simulacro de ejercicio en la Cumbre de Reducción del Riesgo de Desastres (DDR) en la cumbre de la Américas

El Consorcio Geoespacial Abierto (OGC®) anuncia una convocatoria para participar en un simulacro de respuesta a desastres que se llevará a cabo en Buenos Aires, Argentina, el 7 de Septiembre de 2017, durante la Reducción de Riesgos de Desastres (DRR, por sus siglas en inglés) en la Cumbre de las Américas.

Muchos de los procesos naturales que producen desastres en América Latina y el Caribe pueden afectar simultáneamente a varios países de la región, por lo cual se entiende que la capacidad de respuesta ante un desastre se verá profundamente mejorada si los países colaboran en términos de intercambio de mejores prácticas e información para la reducción del riesgo. Trabajando conjuntamente con las comunidades responsables de la respuesta ante desastres, incluyendo a los proveedores de datos y usuarios finales a través de un ejercicio de simulacro, se podrán identificar las mejoras prácticas, las falencias, las necesidades de información requeridas por el conjunto de stakeholders y su vez asegurarnos que los planes futuros de mejora estén atados a las falencias y necesidades reales.

La Cumbre de DDR a través de las Américas brindará una oportunidad importante para mejorar el diálogo y la planificación entre representantes de la Observación Científica de la Tierra y la comunidad de DDR, incluidos los interesados en la preparación y planificación, mitigación de desastres, respuesta de emergencia y recuperación.

Para asegurar el éxito del ejercicio, específicamente fomentamos la participación de gerentes de emergencias, proveedores de datos de observación de la Tierra, el sector académico, organizaciones no gubernamentales y compañías comerciales.
