Howdy My Friends,

Wanted to make sure you were aware of this (very parallel-sounding, and complementary) effort.
Note that ad-hoc sessions have no (remote) participation restrictions, and I am sure your
inputs would be welcomed.

Dear all,

The use of non-authoritative data for decision making is a topic that has been whirling at OGC/TC meetings for quite some time already, with latest of such discussions happening between the chairs of the Data Quality and Citizen Science DWGs at the last OGC/TC in Palmerston North, New Zealand.

Since these discussions are recurrent and it is not clear what the standpoint of OGC is (or should be) on this matter, we decided to organize an ad-hoc session on the ‘*/Use of non-authoritative data in decision-making/*’ (the session goes by the name ‘NAD ad-hoc’ in the agenda) at the next OGC/TC Plenary in Orleans, France.

*NAD ad-hoc* will take place on Monday, *19 March 2018, 8:30 AM* – *10:15 AM*.

This session will take a format of four 10-20 min long presentations, each prepared by the groups involved in the recent discussions: Data Quality DWG, Citizen Science DWG, Geospatial User Feedback SWG and Smart Cities DWG. Each of these presentations will aim at answering the groups’ view on the following questions: “*What do we need to do to make data from non-authoritative sources fit for decision making?*” and, after the presentation sessions, we reserved a slot for wider discussion with contribution from anyone participating in the session.

We believe that this will be the first of possibly a series of discussions on the use of non-authoritative data in decision making, and would like invite you to book the slot in your agenda and participate in the session.

NOTE: for the lack of consensus on the terminology, in this initial discussion we use the term ‘non-authoritative data’ to describe any data contributed from other than officially recognized spatial data producer (a government agency or other nominated data custodian). We seek to agree on an acceptable term during the discussion during the ad-hoc session.

We are looking forward to a fruitful discussion!

On behalf of the co-chairs of Data Quality DWG, Citizen Science DWG, Smart Cities DWG, and Geospatial User Feedback SWG,
