Hi Ajay -

This attribute is not in the working draft, which is located at
wiki.esipfed.org/index.php/Attribute_Convention_for_Data_Discovery_%28ACDD%29_Working

There has been some email discussion about the 3 "file dates" in the
original ACDD/UDD, but we've moved from one email list to another over
the years, and I'm not sure I can figure out exactly when this was
dropped -
or even if it's gone permanently.

The original definition was, as you noticed, circular, but the ISO
19115-2
column in the 'current version' page at
wiki.esipfed.org/index.php/Attribute_Convention_for_Data_Discovery_%28ACDD%29
has slightly different terms for these fields, at the most detailed level:

date_created: /gmd:CI_DateTypeCode="creation"
date_modified: /gmd:dateType/gmd:CI_DateTypeCode="revision"
date_issued: /gmd:dateType/gmd:CI_DateTypeCode="publication"

My group (OceanSITES) uses only data_created, because we don't really
'update' files; and when we overwrite a file, we often lose the original
publication
date. We could make an effort to track that date, but it doesn't seem
pertinent
for our data.

Regards - Nan
