[Esip-infoquality] Reminder - IQC Monthly telecon - August 14, 2018 (sorry about wrong date sent earlier)

>From an end-user perspective (either human or machine), the following
quality attributes are somewhat touched upon in end-user’s quest to get a
dataset:

– Availability; – Searchability; – Findability; – Discoverability; –
Accessibility;
– Obtainability

Some are used interchangeably, for example, Searchability and Findability;
Findability and Discoverability. However, differences and distinctions do
exist (Baker, 2013).

Some have multiple aspects, such as Accessibility being either
Repository-facing or User-facing, while people may use it without
distinguishing what aspect.

The distinctions and aspects are important in defining the scope and
maturity level of maturity assessment models. They are also important for
users to understand and use the quality information correctly.

These have prompted me to look into their differences and aspects in
details. Definition, What, Dependence, Issue, Quality dimension
classification, and Use case for these quality attributes are summarized on
the slide (see the shared Google Slide, text in italics are my perspective).

They are very preliminary; edits and additional input are welcome. I would
like to get your feedback on:

For data and information management, is it necessary or useful to:
i.Standardize vocabulary in describing these quality attributes (also other
quality attributes),
ii.Distinguish the quality attributes to different aspects (also map to data
and information quality dimensions)

Appreciate the opportunity to touch on this very subject at this month's
telecon. The Google slide can be accessed at:
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1S6WTqP0FUxCgJvuWgH0Q5T_J2UR96hCauqaBdTygHLU/edit?usp=sharing

Looking forward to your feedback and please let me know if you have trouble
accessing the file.

Best regards,

--- Peng
