Session Description:

After data citations, usage metrics for research data are considered an important indicator of research impact.  Such data usage metrics demonstrate an inseparable relationship between “Data” and “Science” -- “No Data, No Science, and Vice Versa”.  Usage data recorded for various scholarly items captures information about potential interest and use, beyond journal article citations. Also, usage metrics can be recorded immediately upon dissemination to enable scholarly impact assessment of data and distribution capabilities, facilitating assessment and improvement of data products and services. This session invites presentations on various data-usage metrics and altmetrics for research studies and/or applications, including  community adoption of usage-based metrics, standards for recording and exchanging usage data, uncertainties for compilation of usage data sets, and  understanding of the whole concept of usage metrics.
