Subject: Marine Life Data Workshop for July 8th at 1pm ET: edna2obis:
mobilizing eDNA data to Darwin Core (Guest: Katherine Silliman, Bayden
Willms)
Hi MBON DMAC'ers!
Our next "data session" will be held on July 8th from 1pm ET - 3pm ET. The
topic will be " edna2obis: mobilizing eDNA data to Darwin Core " and will
be hosted by Katherine Silliman, Bayden Willms, and Luke Thompson. This is
a follow on to the April 8th session on FAIR-eDNA
<https://fair-edna.github.io/index.html> and BeBOP
<https://github.com/BeBOP-OBON> (notes here
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eaGBKaJU3TicqyXY5QLBd-qaH1cQuPGoTJi1NWU9NXs/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.2hdqhz31vf5w>).
Below is the connection information if you would like to attend as well as
an overview of the session.
The meeting is open to others who might have an interest as well.
DNA derived data are increasingly being used to document taxon occurrences.
To ensure these data are useful to the broadest possible community, GBIF
<https://www.gbif.org/> published a guide entitled "Publishing DNA-derived
data through biodiversity data platforms.
<https://docs.gbif.org/publishing-dna-derived-data/en/>" This guide is
supported by the DNA derived data extension
<https://tools.gbif.org/dwca-validator/extension.do?id=http://rs.gbif.org/terms/1.0/DNADerivedData>
for Darwin Core <https://dwc.tdwg.org/>, which incorporates MIxS
<https://gensc.org/mixs/> terms into the Darwin Core standard.
This use case draws on both the guide and the extension to develop a
workflow (edna2obis <https://github.com/aomlomics/edna2obis>) for
incorporating a DNA derived data extension file into a Darwin Core archive.
