[Esip-preserve] Object Attributes and Databases

I was reviewing some material on objects and relational databases,
noting a very useful Wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Object-relational_database
If I have understood this article correctly, the collection structures we
have been dealing with (rock cores, emergency response imagery,
and some of the satellite data product file hierarchies) do not lend
themselves to being described as objects with a common set of
attributes. If this understanding is correct, then we probably leave
the simple world of relational databases and enter the world of
object-relational databases. These may involve Object Resource
Brokers (ORBs), including CORBA, and some other kinds of software.

Any thoughts?
