Hi everyone,
Per our meeting on Monday, 10/19, the following are the notes shared with us by Erin regarding the 3rd Workshop on Sustainable Software for Science Practice and Experiences (WSSSPE3) (September 28-29; Boulder, CO).
Thanks,
Sophie
============================
WSSSPE3 was held in Boulder at the end of September. A lot of ground was covered over the two day meeting. Matt Turk, NCSA gave the keynote and then there were several lightning talks on research across domains. I gave a lightning talk on behalf of Yolanda Gil, the PI for the OntoSoft project (http://www.ontosoft.org/<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.ontosoft.org_&d=BQMFaQ&c=8hUWFZcy2Z-Za5rBPlktOQ&r=1PmGZVnqwC8TB06gXIaAHA&m=dV1k-H6_Pmu2GvA_2tPzhZt21tuzJzDPH32qwFR7e9I&s=WIaS3v62T119KjbIwSmOfqVG3v6s_guyZK9AnRnPGCk&e=>). The bulk of the meeting was split into working groups. I participated most in the training working group which was focused on coordinating trainings and identifying gaps in training. Currently, it seems that after Data and Software Carpentry there isn't a well-defined set of next steps.
Each group was asked to be concrete about deliverables. The training group is planning to write a white paper on small scale coordination using New Zealand as an example and may tackle thinking about next steps and suggested follow-on after Software Carpentry-like events. The full list of work groups and deliverables can be found here: http://wssspe.researchcomputing.org.uk/wssspe3/<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__wssspe.researchcomputing.org.uk_wssspe3_&d=BQMFaQ&c=8hUWFZcy2Z-Za5rBPlktOQ&r=1PmGZVnqwC8TB06gXIaAHA&m=dV1k-H6_Pmu2GvA_2tPzhZt21tuzJzDPH32qwFR7e9I&s=3_STzJtbfqQ5R6bZ8pA8U4luXN91JmyNTUbPVxiDE0o&e=>
