[esip-semanticweb] resume monthly telecons

Hi Tom and Eric,

Sounds like there are some relevant activities developing. It would be great to have further discussions, if not at today's telecon, then at the other telecons. At the least, it may make for good content for our tutorials, should we be presenting more next summer.

I don't think the SW cluster has an official triple store. The closest thing was the testbed that we used for the tutorials.

Note that the ESIP Products and Services Committee is starting up funding for standing up new testbeds.

Tom,

I will be on the telecon today. I'd be happy to talk about our project, integration of the skills database, and use of the ontology developed by the SW cluster.

Hook,

I also have a regular conflict with the new time and will miss the telecon. However, I wanted to mention that Eric Rozell (Discovery Cluster Student Fellow) and I have been working on a Funding Friday project to create linked data from AGU/ESSI and ESIP data. Currently, we have RDF for ESIP meetings, ESIP people, ESSI abstracts, ESSI sessions, and ESSI people. Erin has sent us an SQL representation of the ESIP skills database, which we are planning to convert to RDF next. Perhaps some of our work will be of interest to your TIWG project and vice versa.

Let me know if you’d like to discuss at some point. Our project is described here:

By the way, does the Semantic Web Cluster have a triple store available that projects can use to host RDF data?

Hi Peter,

The ESDSWG TIWG's "Services, Interoperability, and Orchestration" group
has recently been working on some analysis of Earth science capabilities,
technologies, and the strategy usage mappings between them (for also later
purposes of doing gap analysis). We had tried a couple of different
representations and recently started on a COE concept map, which seems to
be more effective so far. It was pointed out at our telecon last week that
the ontology that is forming of classes and instances of capabilities and
technologies, and their relationships, seems to be a generalization of
some of our various ESIP ontology working group efforts (e.g. ESIP 2011
Winter tutorial on Projects and the ESIP "skills database"). Time
permitting, might we add this to the agenda as well?

I have regular time conflicts with the new SW telecon time. But I may be
able to attend for the first 30-minutes for Sept 27.

Thanks,
Hook
