Hi All -

The Rant/Rave tomorrow will be by Chris Jenkins, CU-INSTAAR on his new NSF
project. WebEx details below.

*New NSF project: Porting Biomedical Semantic Technologies to Earth, Ice &
Life sciences.*
C. Jenkins (presenting), R. Duerr, M. Palmer, J. Martin, at Univ Colorado
Boulder.'

Abstract: The biomedical industry has seen enormous investment in semantic
technologies. And there are many parallels between their information
structures and those of other sciences. This project harnesses a
collaboration between an advanced Computational Linguistics institute and 3
science institutes to port biomed ML-NLP software, workflows and data
structures into the Earth-Ice-Life sciences. The goal is a rich foundation
(database) of semantic assertions
for those sciences that will allow development of advanced applications
like reasoners, smart query, etc.
