[esip-semantictech] promoting new ontologies in an ESIP semweb portal

I agree with everything suggested thus far.

I also think our community would benefit from something akin to Linked Open Vocabularies - http://lov.okfn.org/dataset/lov/ <http://lov.okfn.org/dataset/lov/> Probably don’t need all of the LOV features. However, a listing of which vocabularies/ontologies your ontology re-uses (if any), known projects using your ontology, and expressivity (ontology vs. taxonomy/vocabulary, ODP or domain ontology, etc.) could go a long way for non-experts to find and re-use ontologies. Something like this could likely be a community driven wiki page that links to the ontology portal.

Let’s add this discussion to the agenda for next Friday’s committee planning session.

Also Earth Science Informatics explicitly mentions ontologies and vocabularies somewhere it its purview, and there have previously been papers published in Computers & Geosciences related to these topics. IIRC, there have been a handful in Mathematical Geosciences as well, but (again, IIRC) these were closer to "knowledge representation".
