Nice registry Simon! I think this is the most friendly registry that I’ve run across yet. I added links to them in the spreadsheet.

To get the discussion jumpstarted again, I wonder if we might start with describing datum related to soil sample space/time location (ie lat, long, layer descriptions, sampling method) and bulk density. We can draw on the CSIRO, and KSSL vocab lists and then cross reference that with some of the research data products from research groups.

Thoughts?

Subject: [Esip-soil-informatics] Meeting recap

Recap from today’s meeting.

We talked about what would help move us forward with developing/extending/vetting soil ontologies. To that end we started a google sheet here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11oY2TIQIVnaNYfG-nXiOfWyQ17uVlReNX4qrdOYddeg/edit?usp=sharing<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__docs.google.com_spreadsheets_d_11oY2TIQIVnaNYfG-2DnXiOfWyQ17uVlReNX4qrdOYddeg_edit-3Fusp-3Dsharing&d=DwMGaQ&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=cG4e22DhE_24WgV67TY07bX35Pu84XKMIq_1hkQnll4&m=op67VRojgaDKt-sbrMWCYWFT_ajNIDOH6uGyFDHa-NQ&s=1rtFFWrHpmcC3Dq-sHvmcyTZqW08jdASO7k0uS2doOs&e=>
to collect various soil properties (terms) that we think might be useful for identified use cases with specific competency questions we would like the semantics/ontology to be able to address.

I gave things a first stab at what I’m interested in to flesh out soil organic stock databases but I would be really interested in what the rest of the group thought!

Our next meeting will be 10 February at 1700 UTC. The agenda for this meeting will depend on where the excel sheet ends up this next month. Feel free to use this mailing list or the Slack channel to talk about additions or use cases that you think would be interesting.

For reference here is this year’s new meeting notes: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_SIm_3e9xpni_64zdAU1DZrFEd8YcIerbsihDJq4qwY/edit?usp=sharing<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__docs.google.com_document_d_1-5FSIm-5F3e9xpni-5F64zdAU1DZrFEd8YcIerbsihDJq4qwY_edit-3Fusp-3Dsharing&d=DwMGaQ&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=cG4e22DhE_24WgV67TY07bX35Pu84XKMIq_1hkQnll4&m=op67VRojgaDKt-sbrMWCYWFT_ajNIDOH6uGyFDHa-NQ&s=q85hw2EFJw92CmvndfbCchzZ3srDa9crXDRv8ckRocE&e=>

I think we are circling around some really exciting work and can’t wait to see where we end up!
