[Esip_dmtraining] Notes from Feb 4th call and a bit of news

Hello, all:

You can find the notes for our teleconference call last Thursday on the ESIP

Sophie or feel free to add them yourself.   We had a very interesting
discussion about expanding our discussion of topics related to data
management to include the recognition of a growing need for training
resources for a professional data manager (data scientist?) who works
between a research data producer (scientist in our case) and the manager of
a data repository - one who knows both something of the science domain, but
also something about the management of data.  We plan to keep this audience
in mind as well as the research scientist and the data repository manager as
we begin to evaluate important topics needing to have learning resources
generated (or identified?) for them on our next call.  That call is
scheduled for Thursday, March 3rd at 9 am Pacific.  Hope you can make it.

 

While we're awaiting news about whether our DMT Clearinghouse proposal has
been chosen for funding by the USGS CDI community by mid - late March, we've
learned that a poster proposal submitted by Professor Shelley Knuth at the
University of Colorado, Boulder on our Clearinghouse efforts has been
accepted for the RDAP Summit 2016 in Atlanta, May 4 - 7.  See
https://www.asis.org/rdap/ .    Thanks to Shelley for shepherding the
proposal submission that was due on the same date as the USGS CDI proposal,
and for agreeing to present the poster!  

 

As always, ideas about topics to discuss and activities to take on the topic
of data management training are welcome.
