No current plans for summer session on my end. I will say that the Soils group seems to be having trouble figuring out an actual action plan. I’ve tried a few things (maybe too quickly?) and sort of feel like we haven’t quite found anything that balances time commitment with interest/deliverables correctly.

Which is not to say that it’s been an entirely fruitless endeavor! We have gotten some fantastic connections and conversations going in the group and I think our community presentation portion is really poised to take off this summer.

All this is to say that I would be very interested in other people’s thoughts on how to structure community events/engagement around semantic tool application, curation, extension, and creation.

Best,

Here are some of my thoughts.
We have talked about kicking off some type collaborative semantic harmonization activities
with the Bio, Marine and/or Soil clusters. Each probably has its advantages.
The Marine has probably been talked about the longest and just had a meeting scheduled Thursday. Is that still active and if so did anyone attend that?
The Soil cluster is currently the one I personally attend and see most activity in but not using a semantic harmonization approach. ( I added Kathe to this email and she may have an opinion and/or plans for the Summer Session).

If we are talking about surfacing this at the Summer Session after we start with a cluster we might have progress to show.
But given scant resources we might only have time to show progress with one of these cluster areas. We might need some low hanging fruit to start with such as an agreed upon list of 20-30 terms with working definitions to start and an Ontology to relate these to.

+1

The Bio, Marine and Soil folks are all primed. A working collaborative
session with any of those clusters would likely yield useful results.

Gary, if you are keen to lead a Landforms session I think it would also
be relevant to the soils folks.

Cheers,
