Here is a summary of recent updates and additions to the Federation Website.

Documents from the 10th Federation Assembly were posted this week to several
areas of the website. Thirty-Three documents, mostly PowerPoint
presentations from the ESIP review, were linked to the meeting page at:

Information about the three new partners has been added in several places

PARTNER PROFILE - ARIA
---------------------------
The partner in the spotlight this week is ARIA - The Arizona Regional Image
Archive. ARIA is an interdisciplinary resource system providing digital
image and map data of the Sonoran desert region, including the US Southwest
and northern Mexico. ARIA has Internet courseware modules and image
processing facilities. ARIA is one of three new Partners added to the
Federation in Jan. 2003.

Geospatial Tools for Natural Resource Management Available From ARIA 
RangeView "Geospatial Tools for Natural Resource Management" was developed
by components of the University of Arizona's College of Agriculture and Life
Sciences. It is one Infomart for rangeland natural resource managers and

NASA LAUNCHES ICE & CHIPS SATELLITES
NASA's Ice, Cloud and Land Elevation satellite (ICESat) and Cosmic Hot
Interstellar Spectrometer (CHIPS) satellite lifted off from Vandenberg Air
Force Base, Calif., at 4:45 p.m. PST, Jan. 12 aboard Boeing's Delta II

NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH AND
EDUCATION RELEASES NEW REPORT

Recommendations for NSF's next decade of environmental research and
education programs were released Jan 8 in the report entitled Complex
Environmental Systems: Synthesis for Earth, Life, and Society in the 21st

Thematic Guide on Social Science Applications of Remote Sensing Released by
SEDAC
This guide provides an introduction to remote sensing for non-technical
audiences and reviews key issues in the application of remote sensing
techniques in social science research. The online guide provides examples of
the application of remote sensing in six different social science fields and
includes an extensive research bibliography and a listing of major satellite

major weather and geological events. These are in the public domain and

THREE NEW PARTNERS APPROVED DURING THE 10th FEDERATION ASSEMBLY

Tactical Geographics http://www.tacgeo.com/ was founded to provide
innovative solutions for mobile GIS applications. Tactical Geographics is
based in Tucson, Arizona, and serve customers all over the world. Their
mission is to create small, lightweight, simple, cost effective, geospatial
tools for soldiers, sailors, Marines, intelligence and public safety
professionals to use in the field. Their vision is to see our nation's
guardians equipped with the absolute best geospatial technology and data
possible.
Arizona Regional Image Archive http://aria.arizona.edu/, ARIA, is an
interdisciplinary resource system for digital image and map data for the
Sonoran desert region, including the US Southwest and northern Mexico. ARIA
has Internet courseware modules utilizing the resources of the Center and
upgrade of instructional image processing facilities. To provide access to
data for the Sonoran desert region, they outreach to state and county
agencies in the region.
Earth Systems Science Education 21st Century, ESSE 21
http://esse21.usra.edu/, engages a collaborative community of
interdisciplinary Earth system science educators and scientists to jointly
develop and share learning resources, courses, curricula and degree programs
focused on the fundamental understanding and application of Earth system
principles for the undergraduate and graduate classroom and laboratory.
