Hi ESIP folks,

The International Space Apps Challenge will happen next weekend (April 12-13) and it's a great opportunity for people to create apps related to Earth science. Please spread the word and to consider attending at one of the physical locations. Space Apps is a "codeathon”-style event at almost 100 locations around the world where citizens, scientists, entrepreneurs, educators, and students to help solve challenges about Earth, space exploration and social needs. Nearly half of the challenges are about the environment so this is relevant to your respective missions. It should yield a set of helpful apps and other products.

Please tell your professional communities about Space Apps via emails, listservs or social media. Here is sample text you can use.

NASA is conducting the third annual International Space Apps Challenge, a “codeathon”-style event on April 12-13 at nearly 100 locations around the world. This is an opportunity for citizens, scientists, entrepreneurs, educators, and students to help solve challenges about Earth, space exploration and social needs. Over 20 of the challenges are about the environment<https://2014.spaceappschallenge.org/challenge/category/earth-watch/> and cover topics like air quality, imagery, coastal inundation, watersheds, trees, and land cover. Please check out the challenges and register to participate at a physical location or virtually at https://2014.spaceappschallenge.org<https://2014.spaceappschallenge.org/>/.

In addition, you can help as a subject matter expert or as a volunteer; see the Space Apps Legal page https://2014.spaceappschallenge.org/about/legal for more details. I hope you can participate.

Thanks,
Ethan
