The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) is ramping up their next Global Environmental Outlook assessment (GEO-6) http://www.unep.org/geo/ and is requesting nominations of experts from across the globe to participate in a variety of functions during the assessment development and consultation process. Though the Federal Register notice placed by the State Department requesting nominations was only published during the holidays, the US deadline is listed as January 19, 2015, next Monday. In discussion with UNEP they have made it clear that making sure names are submitted with as much documentation as possible will be welcomed. The UNEP announcement indicates that nominations from countries will be accepted until January 31st. They have also indicated that most of the consultations will occur via electronic means so a nomination does not mean a required commitment to travel funding by your affiliated organization.

So please consider sending your nomination to the State Department as instructed by Monday. This is not a self-nomination process. Visit the website included in the Register notice: http://www.unep.org/geo/nomination-criteria.asp and http://www.unep.org/geo/expert-tor.asp for detailed information.
