Subject: [hyspiri] User Needs for Future Landsat Missions

Dear Colleagues,

Here is a just released Request For Information (RFI) regarding User Needs for Future Landsat Missions.

The information requested is

1. CURRENT LANDSAT USAGE: How are you using Landsat or other moderate-resolution land imaging data, and what types of customers/users do you serve?

2. SPATIAL RESOLUTION: What spatial resolution for all optical bands and thermal infrared bands would make Landsat data more useful to your application? What would be the benefits of the improved spatial resolution (over current Landsat data) for your applications?

3. TEMPORAL FREQUENCY OF CLOUD-FREE IMAGERY: What frequency of cloud-free imagery would make Landsat data more useful to your application? What would be the benefits of the improved frequency of cloud-free imagery (over current Landsat data) for your applications?

4. SPECTRAL CHARACTERISTICS:

a) What improvements to current Landsat spectral bands would make it more useful to your application? Please be specific and explain the benefits of the improvement.

b) What additional spectral bands would make Landsat data more useful to your application? Please specify band center/width of the additional bands. What would be the benefits of the improved and/or new spectral bands?

5. OTHER: Do you have any additional recommendations for enhancements to Landsat radiometric resolution, signal-to-noise ratio, geographic coverage, data continuity, latency, swath width, data access or format, or the need for nighttime imaging? If so, please describe the benefits of the enhanced capability for your applications.

6. PRIORITY: Among all the Landsat attributes (spatial, temporal, spectral, radiometric, etc.) discussed above, which Landsat attributes are of most importance to your work?

This is an important opportunity to provide input.

The deadline for responses is the 14th of July.

Sincerely,

Rob
