 Dear Drone Cluster,

Are you working with drones to advance Earth and Space Science
monitoring? *Have
you considered the social and policy impacts of your work?* Are you
interested in presenting at the (100 Anniversary!) American Geophysical
Union Fall Meeting?

If yes (or mostly yes!), consider submitting an abstract to:

*New and emerging technologies and their society and policy impacts - *
*PA042* <https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm18/prelim.cgi/Session/51017>* - **Public
Affairs co-organized with ESSI, you are able to submit a second abstract to
this session*

This session aims to strengthen ESSI and PA connections, and advance
important discourse on the social and policy considerations for the
development and use of data and information technologies for earth and
space observation. Seeking to address both the opportunities, and very
substantial challenges, abstracts are welcome on all relevant topics -
including
but not limited to:

   - Any technology for earth and space science data collection or
analytics, information discovery and access, knowledge sharing e.g.
information and communication technologies (ICT), satellite, aircraft or
UAS, sensor networks, IoT, semantic technologies, AI, machine learning
   - Social considerations for technology development, use, and deployment
and relevance and applicability for decision-making and policy (e.g.
ethics, privacy, data and information sovereignty)
   - Proprietary / open source software and hardware, other impacts on
   participation
   - Effects of policy or society on data and information technologies

Kindly consider sharing this with colleagues, and email lkbar at uvm.edu with
any questions or to share ideas for people, groups, or organizations to
reach out to for encouraging participation.

all the best,
Lindsay Barbieri (Bar)
