Hi, everyone:

Rather than a full hour long call today for our monthly meeting, here's the
latest news that I have to share:

. The Data Management Training (DMT) Clearinghouse is LIVE at:
http://dmtclearinghouse.esipfed.org !! Check it out! Add some content to
the inventory! Send in feedback!

o We've submitted a Statement of Interest (SOI) for another round of
funding to the USGS Community for Data Integration. Thanks to Cassandra
Ladino, Physical Scientist from the USGS Eastern Geographic Science Center
who has agreed to be the Principal Investigator for our project along with
other members of the Coordinating Committee. If our SOI gets enough votes,
we will be invited to submit a full proposal, due by the end of January. We
plan to add enhancements, improvements to the UI, and outreach to the DMT
Clearinghouse, if funded. So, if you are a member of CDI, please vote (for
our proposal)!

o We've also submitted a proposal to do some formal usability testing of
the DMT Clearinghouse to the ESIP Products & Services Testbed along with
ESIP's new Usability Cluster, co-chaired by Sophie Hou, UCAR and Madison
Langseth, USGS. Thanks to Robert Downs from SEDAC at Columbia University
who has agreed to be the PI for this project! We should hear about this in
a few weeks.

o We've started discussions with folks who are involved with building an
NCEAS Data Lesson Catalog to see if we might work together in some way using
both their github repository and the DMT Clearinghouse Drupal front end.
More about that later as we continue our explorations.

o If approved, the DMT Clearinghouse will be one of the sites used as a
demonstration of how to "do" usability testing at the ESIP Winter 2017
meeting at a Usability Cluster breakout session to led by Sophie Hou and
Madison Langseth.

. We've started collecting information about and people with whom we
can fruitfully discuss the development of core skills for data
professionals. That should be a very interesting thread to pursue; let us
know if you're interested in being part of those discussions.

. We'll be presenting a poster at the ESIP Winter 2017 meeting in
Washington DC in January on this group's activities. Hope to see you there!

I think that's it for me. Anybody have anything else to report?

Our next All Call meeting will be Thursday, December 1st at 9 am Pacific/10
MTn, 11 am CT, 12 ET. Have a good month! We'll keep you posted on what
happens during November.

Regards,

Nancy
